Lifestyle Newborn sessions are held within the first 4-10 days after birth. These sessions will document the new look of your family in the comfort of your own home. We'll use natural light and a few select locations (the nursery is quite common) and have you just be with your newborn. Snuggling, holding, admiring your little one, we will also capture the sibling interactions, and pets can be included as well. You will never get a chance to recreate the newness of your baby, so I will work to preserve as many of their features and the details of your bond as I can. As a mom, I know that the first days (and maybe weeks or months) go by in a blur, and you can forget about the details if they aren’t captured on film. It’s a time you won’t want to forget!
These sessions are loosely scheduled around your due date. Once baby arrives, we will set up a firm day/time for the session. These are held during the day and last approximately 60 minutes. Unposed and lightly posed images will capture your baby’s tiny features, and some of your first moments together. I do not use props or highly posed techniques.
You will receive a sneak peek of your session within 24 hours. Edited images will be provided for viewing via an online gallery within two weeks of your session. These images will be a combination of black and white and soft color photographs. Digital files, prints, canvas wraps and other items are available for purchase from the gallery website.
Due to the unpredictable timing of labor and delivery, I can only book a few of these sessions each month. Please reach out to reserve your session in advance.
Lifestyle Newborn Clients have the option of adding on a maternity mini session at a discounted rate (a session savings of $50, PLUS all images are available to download) when the sessions are purchased together. Maternity sessions are usually held in the early 3rd trimester. These sessions take place at a mutually agreed upon location outdoors and are such a fantastic way to document the final days of pregnancy before the new baby arrives.
I get it. You brought home a baby, life is totally changed, and you don't have time to make your home pristine. It's normal and totally expected that your home will be lived in and comfortable for you and not set up for a photoshoot. Relax. There is no need to do a deep cleaning - we are in a judgement free zone, I promise. We will use certain areas (the crib, maybe the living room sofa or armchair) and anything that might distract from the images will be moved out of the way for our session (that's right, I'll help you tidy up if needed). That said, I hate to fold laundry, but can shuffle it out of the way with the best of them!
My first advice is to be comfortable - you just had a baby! People know this, you know this, and you should be as comfortable as possible. The second bit of advice is to dress like YOU. If you love light and airy photos, wear light/pastel colors. If you love more of a moody vibe. wear darker colors. Try to avoid prints and patterns and just be yourself.
A lifestyle session, in my mind, is meant to represent you, your family, and this moment in your life. I don't bring props or clothing or any type of accessories to these sessions. If you have a special little something for baby to wear, or that you want included in some photos, please let me know and I'll gladly work it into your session!
Wait, your brand new baby isn't going to be on a set schedule? Haha - I expect that they will need to be fed or changed during a session, they might be sleeping when I arrive, or fall asleep during photos. All of these are GOOD things - we can document feeding, or swaddling, or the way you rock your little one to sleep. I'm here for all of it! The littlest one runs the show for these sessions, so there is no hard stop after an hour - if time is needed to feed or change the baby, or if the bigger sibling is having a moment, I'll take as much time as needed to provide a complete newborn session.
Pets are members of the family and can be included in some images. I will do my best to include them, while maintaining a safe photo session for your baby (read: i won't pose your tiniest baby on the back of your great dane no matter how well trained you insist he is).
The final edited images will be available for download directly from your private viewing gallery site.
